Mercy Health - Building a Complete Pathway from Screening to Care
May 21, 2025

Lung and bronchus cancers remain the leading cause of cancer death in the Dayton region. Thanks to funding from the Gala of Hope Foundation, Mercy Health’s Phase II Lung Nodule Program is enhancing early detection and continuity of care by adding:
A dedicated Lung RN/LPN Nodule Navigator to ensure timely follow-up and seamless care coordination,
Riverain ClearReadCT software to detect small nodules on CT scans that might otherwise go unnoticed, and
Onsite smoking cessation programs delivered through partnerships with area employers to reduce risk and support long-term health.
Since launching its navigator and awareness campaigns, Mercy has increased lung screenings from 842 in 2021 to more than 1,697 by 2024 – substantially outpacing initial goals. Now, these additional investments create a full circle of care: screening, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
Because lung cancer caught early is far more treatable - with survival rates up to 10 times higher than late-stage diagnoses - this comprehensive program – from no-cost screenings to personalized follow-ups - will help save lives across Clark and Champaign counties and set a new standard for proactive lung-cancer care.
